Core Curriculum Statement
PRE-REQUISITES & CORE CURRICULUM
Functional literacy and prior education
or learning are the only prerequisites for admission to MPIU. We require functional literacy: oral and
written English communication. We stand ready to support applicants with additional literacy learning
opportunities such as optional ESL which we guarantee and include for those who need to
upgrade their literacy in English as a Second Language. Degrees may be offered in other languages, check with
Admissions. Additional functional literacy requirements are online communication and internet use, and basic
computational general math.
In order to highlight the real world problems that we expect our
graduates to apply their talents toward, we require every student to complete the five core curriculum subject
areas:
These five core curriculum subject areas are not "courses" in the classic sense of lecture and test, but are more
individual inquiry and group explorations of problems and dilemmas that shape our lives now. These set the stage
for all learning that follows.
DEGREE DIFFERENTIATION
We offer three sequential and different degrees: Bachelors, Masters
and Doctoral. At most colleges, the Bachelors is usually four years of undergraduate course work after secondary
or high school. At some universities, the Masters is normally one or two years of graduate study after
completion of the Bachelors. At other institutions, the Doctoral is typically two or three years of graduate
course work after the Masters or three or five years after the Bachelors. At MPIU, our use of self paced online
learning and the Oxbridge tutorial approach allows you to complete your degree in considerably less time or
gives you permission to take as much time as you need, just in case you have other life commitments like work
and family. Additionally, degree acceleration waivers may be obtained for some requirements upon appropriate
presentation and MPIU acceptance of Prior Learning Self Assessment documentation as set forth by MPIU's and
CAEL's published standards.
For all degrees, the Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral qualifications
culminate in a valuable evidence-based or experience based research project, thesis or dissertation
respectively. The Bachelor's Project ought to replicate existing work from a field of study in order to confirm
or refute its findings. The Master's Thesis should extend existing work by replicating it in a new way. The
Doctoral Dissertation must be original work.
