The Marco Polo International
University Story
 

Marco Polo International University was formed because there is an elephant in the living room and the international education establishment fails to see it and deal with it. Recognizing this, a small international group of interested and concerned professional educators, university age students, parents, executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys, and even retired military began meeting over mutual concerns they had and how they might begin to remedy them.


Some were concerned primarily with the obscene cost of post secondary education and the student debt trap.

Some were concerned with the question, what is true education? And, are students even getting educated at all at the university level?

  • Others asked why it is now taking 4-6 years for students to earn a college degree when experts admit that up to 95% of that time is frequently wasted.

After researching what experts from leading countries had to say, as well as the opinions of students and former students, these principles emerged with near consensus:

  • Move completely away from emphasis on teaching, lecturing, instructing, and testing in order to light the students' learning fire.
  • Focus on learning not 'teaching', where students can exercise independent critical thinking.
  • Use the modern age educational delivery systems of absolute choice, the internet and related communication tools.
  • Hire the most distinguished group of international educators available to insure the desired end result.  

Marco Polo International University was formed and moved first to adopt its own online adaptation of the Oxbridge tutorial style learning model. The key objective of the learning model is to enable the student to learn to teach themselves and to strengthen their critical and creative thinking ability. 

Next, the University selected the same computerized education delivery system used by over 7500 centers of learning, worldwide. This top of the line delivery platform was then customized to MPIU specifications to assure maximum benefit to our students. Additionally, some of the world's top e-learning software systems were employed that put MPIU in the company of some of the most highly rated universities in the world.

Consequently the MPIU learning model is built largely around a rigorous online experiential learning, auto didactic research and writing with ample coaching, and as much direct personal interaction with members of the MPIU professor teams as possible. Socratic methodology is used extensively to strengthen critical thinking abilities.

Prior learning outside the university is a form of education recognized as legitimate by Marco Polo University. Qualified adult experiential learning that is properly documented will afford the students some amount of university degree acceleration, if they choose.

In recognition of the international profile of our student enrollment and the absolute importance of being fluent in more than one language, Marco Polo International University will make a TESOL rated ESL program available to every degree student that needs it for nominal cost only.
