Everyone's mother tongue is important, very important, of course. Little by little during the industrial era, English, as a language, became the one of choice when a common language was needed to facilitate communication. It emerged, as the dominant language worldwide in multilingual commerce opportunities. Hence, in many parts of the world, learning English became synonymous with economic opportunity.

Marco Polo International University recognizes the vast importance, as the world continues to shrink, for modern individuals to be fluent in English. We have expressed our recognition of this principle by: 

• Providing all student speakers of other languages the opportunity to learn English as a second language (ESL) for the cost of a simple lab fee (under 75 Euro) provided the student is enrolled in a degree program at Marco Polo International University and completes the ELS program within the first year of enrollment. The degree program may be completed in the second year of enrollment without additional tuition penalty to allow for completion of both degree and Basic ESL programs.
